En TV-gömmare!

A TV hider!

Look what a great thing I made: a stylish TV hideaway! 😎

I measured and cut a piece of fabric from a roll of white-painted canvas that I had left over from when I lived in New York. (I bought it at a paint store a few blocks south of Union Square.) It's wonderful to work with materials that have a history. 😍

I've been thinking for quite some time that it would be nice if the TV was hidden in some way, it draws so much unnecessary attention otherwise. And it feels so nice in the room now that I put up the hider, it feels like a calmer atmosphere, think about how different the atmosphere in a room can be just by hiding the TV. So wonderful! 🤩

Here's a little about what the material "white painted canvas" can be used for: usually you use it to stretch it on a frame, it becomes a white board that you can paint a motif on, and then it becomes a painting. But you can use it for much more than just paintings, for example I have used it to make an envelope bag. It is a very nice material to work with, or maybe above all I like the result, the texture and the surface of that material. It is perfect when you need something stiff that doesn't need to be machine washable.

Do you also want to make a TV hider? Here's how you can do it:

  • Write down the measurements for the pattern: measure the size of your TV, add 5 cm along the top edge, and add 3 cm along the other sides.
  • Make the pattern on a separate piece of paper at a scale of 1:1 and try attaching it to the TV and check that it looks good (looks as you intended). If necessary: change the pattern to fit.
  • If you don't have fabric at home, buy a stiff fabric you like. (If you don't know what fabric is stiff, fabric store staff are usually great at helping if you tell them what the fabric will be used for.)
  • Iron the fabric (at the recommended heat for the type of fabric you purchased). (You iron fabric before cutting it because most fabrics shrink when you iron them. So if you iron after cutting, the result may be too small.)
  • Measure the thickness of the TV frame.
  • Find or buy clamps at home that are large enough to clamp the frame and fabric without damaging the TV.
  • Cut out the fabric.
  • Attach the fabric with the clips, and you're done! Good luck! 🌟

Wishing you a truly wonderful day! 🌸
